A province wide pesticide ban isn’t the only way we are marking Earth Day this year.
Starting today — the Loblaw’s chain is charging five cents per plastic bag used to take away your groceries, if you don’t come armed with your own.
The goal is to get people using reusable bags, and send fewer plastic bags to the landfill.
Regionally, Loblaws stores include Independant Grocers like Legault’s in Port Elgin and Zehrs Stores.
Starting May 1st, the Sobey’s chain follows suit; those stores include any Foodland or IGA .
Most No Frills Stores have been charging for bags for years – and many stores sell reusable bags for under a dollar.
Reusable Green Bags are available throughout Saugeen Shores as well.
Stats show the average family collects about sixty bags per four trips to the grocery store.
Buy reusing bags, not only will you save the environment, but on average, more than 35 dollars a year in plastic bag fees as well.
