The Ontario Hockey League have named Windsor Spitfires’ Vice-President and General Manager Warren Rychel the Leagues’ Executive of the Year for the 2008-09 season.
He becomes the first member of the Spitfires organization to receive this award.
The 41-year-old native of Tecumseh is in his third season as V-P and G-M of the Spitfires.
The former NHL enforcer has been instrumental in the success of the Spitfires both on and off the ice.
The Spitfires shattered the team record for points in a season with 115 — the most since the 1987-88 season — and finished first overall in the regular season.
Last season (2007-08) the Spitfires finished with 94 points, 51 more than what they accumulated in the 2006-07 season.
Rychel joined the league in the spring of 2006 as part of the Spitfires Ownership Group that also includes President and Head Coach Bob Boughner as well as Governor and Treasurer Peter Dobrich.
