Former Steelback Brewery owner Frank D’Angelo says he’s relieved he was found not guilty of sexual assault today after two “long” years.
The judge who found D’Angelo not guilty of sexual assault says while he is ‘probably’ guilty the evidence has left him with reasonable doubt.
In acquitting D’Angelo today, the judge said he found the evidence of both D’Angelo and his accuser credible.
But in handing down his ruling, he added D’Angelo `may be’ or is `probably’ guilty of the crime of sexually assaulting the young woman.
Outside the court, D’Angelo’s lawyer called the verdict an affirmation that his client `didn’t do it.’
D’Angelo expressed relief at the verdict after two `long’ years that he says proved hard on his family and friends.
The former beer magnate of the Tiverton company — who turns 50 this week — was accused of assaulting the now 22-year-old daughter of a friend in a Toronto hotel room in June of 2007.
D’Angelo calls it the biggest mistake of his life.
