This is a special weekend for the Owen Sound Salvation Army.
The organization is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
A historic plaque is being unveiled at 2 PM by a number of dignitaries at the original location of the Citadel Church on 3rd Avenue East.
There are also self guided tours of the current Church on 14th Street West as well as a sold out celebration banquet tonight and a musical praise afterwards.
There’s also a Family Worship at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning.
Captain Colin Bain tells Bayshore Broadcasting News 125 years is a phenomenal achievement for the group.
Bain is proud of the fact they have good people and play a large role in the community with numerous services — such as the food bank and seniors program.
For example — the Food Bank currently serves 250 families per month.
Bain says they also want to expand.
He says they can connect with other communities and partner with other organizations to provide even more services to local residents.
The weekend also marks the return of Major Joan Canning — who first started in Owen Sound and is now the Assistant Chief Secretary in the U-S National Office.
John Lam also returns home — he is the Bandmaster of Canada’s top musical group that tours the World.
The Salvation Army first started in Owen Sound and Wiarton back in 1884 when five people stepped off a train and formed the group.
