It appears it’s going to be a good year, construction wise, in Arran Elderslie.
Municipality’s chief building official Craig Johnston says as of April 3rd of this year, 24 building permits have been issued valued at 2.1-million-dollars.
Johnston says its the exact number of permits they had last year at this time but he has seven other permits on his desk waiting for approvals.
In 2008, 159 permits were issued, representing some 12.7-million-dollars worth of construction.
This year Johnston predicts about 10-million dollars worth of construction and about 135 permits being issued.
He calls this year a “good” year but not a “great” year as they’ve had in the past.
Johnston says Arran-Elderslie needs some consistent good weather and some positive news from the economy to have the building in the municipality pick up.
Still he says 2009 will be a good year overall.
