A vacant council seat in Saugeen Shores has been filled.
Council has appointed resident and businessman Taun Frosst to represent the Saugeen Ward.
Frosst says he’s honoured to have a seat on council.
The Southampton resident owns a business in Port Elgin and a farm property in the rural Saugeen Ward and also ran for council in 2006.
He has also served as chair of the municipal Planning Advisory Committee.
Frosst says the next 18 months on council will be a great learning curve for him, and he plans to seek re-election in 2010.
He says he has no major issues he wants to pursue right away but wants to get an idea of what council has been doing and assist them in their efforts.
Seven other candidates were also hoping to be appointed, including several who had run in previous elections or had served on council, boards, and committees in Saugeen Shores and other municipalities.
Each made a presentation to council stating why they wished to serve.
Mayor Mike Smith says the appointment process is never easy, especially since it is done in open session and unsuccessful applicants could be disappointed.
He says all of the candidates were great and encourages them to stay involved with municipal activities and run again in the next election.
The Saugeen Ward council seat became vacant in February when Jane Barber resigned and moved to Alberta.
