The designation of the Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five Marine Park as an official Dark Sky Preserve is getting rave reviews from one member of the Bruce County Astronomy Club.
John Hlynialuk says this will make the National Park even more popular than it already is as both amateur and professional star gazers will want to visit the park to observe the night sky.
He says this also will be a big boost to tourism for both the Bruce Peninsula and the rest of Bruce and Grey counties.
Hlynialuk says as part of the designation, Parks Canada will have to offer some form of outreach programs dealing with Astronomy for both the general public and die hard astronomers.
He says the new visitors centre and its auditorium presents an ideal venue to offer some of these programs which the Astronomy Club will be involved in developing.
Hlynialuk says with the National Park getting this designation, they now are working on trying to get the Bluewater Board of Education’s Outdoor Education Centre recognized as a Dark Sky area as well.
He says once they construct their observatory at the Centre that would be the next step for them to take.
