Another sign that Independent MPP Bill Murdoch may be heading back to the Conservative Caucus.
Interim Party Leader Bob Runciman tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he hopes some of the changes he has made at the Legislature will convince Murdoch to return to the party fold.
Runciman — who appeared on the CFOS Open Line Tuesday morning — changed rules so the Caucus Chair now is elected rather than appointed by the leader.
He also has brought back several senior staff that were let go during the leadership of John Tory.
Those were two of the measures that Murdoch wanted to see implemented to make the party more democratic.
Runciman says that many of the caucus members would like to see Murdoch return to the fold because he is a good friend to many of them.
Runciman says he spoke with the Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP last week about what had to be done to make it possible for him to return to the party and he will be discussing that with the caucus next week.
He also hopes the changes he has brought forward will meet with the approval of the new party leader as he feels its important for the caucus to play a role in the selection of the person who will chair those meeting in the future.
Murdoch says before he makes any decision, he wants to speak with all four of the leadership candidates to see how they have reacted to the changes the interim leader has made.
