The call for nominations is out.
The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is looking for nominees in seven different categories that will be announced at their 50th anniversary gala.
Chamber General Manager Joanne Robbins points out the awards are more of a people’s choice type of award.
Everyone is welcome to nominate businesses and vote for your favourite.
Robbins says forms can be found on line at www.saugeenshores.ca or hard copies can be picked up at several locations throughout the town including 98 the Beach Radio and the Chamber offices.
She says the seven categories provided this year are:
Community Service Award; Customer Service Excellence; Rookie Business of the last two years; Special Merit Award; Environmental Award; Excellence in Technology and Business of the Year.
Robbins says this year the event is being combined into a gala to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chamber in the area.
This year, the event will have a dinner, a state-of-the-town address by Mayor Mike Smith; the Chamber’s annual general meeting; the awards ceremony and capped off with a silent auction and a dance.
The gala takes place at the Lakeshore Recreation Club on Friday, May 1st.
Also at the gala they will be unveiling the Fred Weurth Memorial Tri-County Growers Award.
It’s named after former Mayor Weurth who created Pumpkinfest in Port Elgin, simply by challenging the mayor of Ailsa Craig as to who could grow the bigger pumpkin.
The plaque will sport the names of the best local growers in competition at the Pumpkinfest weigh-in from Bruce, Grey and Huron counties beginning with this fall’s competition.
But first things first.
Robbins says you have until Friday, April 17th to get your nominations in choosing your favourite businesses that match the categories provided.
