Grey Bruce Health Services has attracted a cardiologist.
Doctor Khaled Shelig will begin his full-time specialized practice at the end of this month.
Doctor Shelig is Owen Sound’s first specialist cardiologist.
Interim President and CEO Maureen Solecki says the Grey Bruce Region does have a very high incidence of cardiac disease.
Solecki says Doctor Shelig will be a great asset because having a non-evasive cardiologist on site will allow them to do the diagnostic work patients need.
She says after the patients are diagnosed they are then referred to another hospital for surgery, if needed.
Solecki says she is more than pleased to see Doctor Shelig joining their medical staff.
He is filling the vacancy following the retirement of Doctor Kumar, more than a year ago.
Doctor Shelig has practiced most recently in Ottawa and Saskatchewan.
