Sisters from Meaford have been charged in connection with running a suspected puppy mill.
OSPCA officials seized more than a hundred dogs — mostly smaller breeds — last December after a call from a concerned citizen.
The dogs were found with severely matted fur, covered in their own waste and in desperate need of medical attention.
Things were so bad inside the residence, investigators had to leave frequently because of the ammonia in the air.
Many of the dogs have since been adopted through shelters in Kitchener Waterloo, Niagara and York regions.
Charged are Beverley and Sandra Tomalin with one count of wilful neglect and 11 counts of causing unnecessary suffering.
They’re scheduled to make a first appearance in court May 14th.
If convicted they face up to five years in jail and a fine of up to 10 thousand dollars.
