Charges have now been laid in connection with a crash involving a pickup truck and a horse, that resulted in the horse being euthanized.
46 year old Martin Wickens of The Blue Mountains has been charged with Careless Driving and Fail to Remain at the scene of an Accident.
Wickens will appear in Owen Sound court on May 14th.
10 days ago a truck collided with a horse and rider on the 9th Side Road at the 10th Line in The Blue Mountains.
It happened just before 5 PM that day.
The rider was Jessica Ruppel, who is one of Canada’s top equestrians.
She was injured in the collision, suffering several cuts and bruises.
Collingwood Blue Mountains OPP say after the collision, the driver got out of the truck, yelled at the horse owner and then fled the scene.
Ruppel says the three year old horse was struggling to get up, and they discovered on scene that she had a broken pelvis.
They then made the decision to humanely put her down, and end her suffering.
