Grey County is going ahead with a salary based system for Council remuneration.
The system will cover the wages of the Warden and Councillors while at Council meetings, committee meetings, and other obligations.
The Warden will be paid close to 46 thousand dollars a year while each Councillor will be paid just over 15 thousand dollars.
But Councillor Howard Greig asked that a couple of components be removed from the draft by-law.
A salary survey comparing Grey County with other Counties would have seen salaries of the Warden and Councillors be automatically adjusted every other year to put them in the mid range of other Counties.
But Greig says in these tough economic times it would be better to hold off any thought of increasing the pay of Councillors.
Another is the having Councillor’s salaries be increased every other year based on the Consumer Price Index.
Greig wanted that item removed but later compromised after the consensus of Council agreed to change the wording from “increased” to “adjusted”.
Warden Kevin Eccles was originally against the idea of removing the two line items in the by-law but changed his mind after the second item in question was changed.
He says the first item became redundant when Council agreed to vote on remuneration every two years.
The item to complete a salary survey was taken out by a weighted recorded vote of 54-41 while the rest of the by-law was passed.
