A small federally owned beach in Owen Sound is close to being re-opened to the public.
City Council unanimously carried a motion at Monday’s meeting to allow public access to a small beach at the cobblestone shoreline.
Council has entered into an agreement in principle with Transport Canada for the use of the beach located at the end of 27th Street West.
Transport Canada made the decision last autumn to restrict public access.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says they have not ironed out all the details of the agreement yet, but the city will now maintain and police the beach.
You will not be allowed to use the beach between Dusk and Dawn.
The City will also supply garbage containers.
Lovell Stanners says the swimming area has been used by west side children for a long time.
She feels if the beach was off limits this summer, they would miss it very much.
Once City Staff and Transport Canada negotiate details of the agreement it will be completely re-opened.
