The numbers are crunched and Hanover has set its 2009 Budget.
Mayor Kathi Maskell believes residents will be satisfied with this years budget.
The 10.3 million dollar budget represents a 1.3 percent tax increase for residents.
This works out to be a 29 dollar tax hike for the average home assessed at 151 thousand dollars.
Of the 10.3 million dollar budget, 4.4 million will be raised through taxes.
There is 8.9 million dollars for the operating budget and a 1.3 million dollars for the capital budget.
Maskell says bringing in a 1.3 percent tax increase was no small feat and credits staff for bring forth such a fiscally responsible budget.
Maskell adds that an increase in government grant dollars to the town as well as a low County tax levy hike helped keep Hanover’s tax increase so low.
Despite the small tax increase, Maskell says this is in no way a bare bones budget.
She says a number of large capital projects will take place this year including the completion of the sewer and water upgrades to 14th street.
Other highlights include the purchase of two new police cruisers.
Hanover also managed to put 300 hundred thousand dollars into a new Investing in Hanover Reserve Fund.
As for bag tags, Hanover is holding the line. There will be no increase, they will remain at dollar a tag.
