An international wakeboarding event could be coming back to our area.
Collingwood is looking at the possibility of hosting Wakestock in the future.
But Peter Dunbar, Director of Leisure Services, says a decision won’t be made for a while.
He says department heads have been reviewing and investigating how they could run the event with full control.
Wakestock was banned from Wasaga Beach by its council in January of 2005 after many complaints and charges were laid following the event in the summer of 2004.
There are reports as many as 739 criminal charges were laid for a number of things including public drunkeness and vandalism at venues associated with Wakestock.
Dunbar says he believes a controlled, enjoyable event could be held at the pond at the Village at Blue Mountain and some events at the Harbour.
He says at this point they don’t know when the event could come to this area.
For this year, it’s being held at Toronto’s Centre Island on August 6th to 9th.
That’s where the event’s been held since it was banned from Wasaga.
