There are better days ahead.
So says senior climatologist with Environment Canada David Phillips.
Phillips suggests this latest spat of winter-like weather in Bruce and Grey counties is likely the “last hurrah” for winter.
He says the latest weather models show warmer than normal temperatures from mid-April to mid-May.
But he is quick to point out that he’s aware that this area has sometimes been covered with snow on the May holiday weekend.
For this time of year, the normal high is 9 celsius with the normal low at minus 1 and that’s exactly the type of readings we’ll have for the Easter holiday weekend.
He says the good news is it will be wall-to-wall sunshine with no precipitation in the forecast and temperatures could double in the sun however officials readings are taken in the shade.
Phillips says it gets better.
Both the Canadian and American models show that we will have a warmer than normal summer with near normal amounts of precipitation.
He says that’s great news for the farmers, cottagers and vacationers in our area.
He says with last year’s wet summer and two bad winters in a row we are due for some good summer weather and so far, so good.
