Muskies Even Series
The Shelburne Muskies have forced a seventh and deciding game in their WOAA “AA” North Final series with the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.
Shelburne defeated the visiting Winterhawks 5-2 yesterday in Game 6 to even the series at 3.
The Muskies ignited the 800 spectators at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Centre by scoring five unanswered goals — 4 of them in the third period.
The Winterhawks opened the scoring on goals by Brent MacDermid in the first period and Tim Hammell in the second.
Matt Lougheed scored the first of his two goals of the game 1:23 after Hammells goal to make it 2-1 for Saugeen Shores after 2 periods.
Chris Greer tied the game up at 2 early in the third period.
Then Zach Duerden put Shelburne ahead for good with his goal to make it 3-2 for the Muskies.
Lougheed and Brad Horan put the game away with a pair of late power play markers.
The Winterhawks took out some of their frustration on the Muskie players with 2 minutes left in the game resulting in some major penalties for both teams.
Muskies goaltender Rob Senay kept the team in the game during the first 2 periods before they exploded in the third.
Senay made 25 saves while his counterpart Nick Goetz stopped 38 shots.
The Winterhawks were 0 for 7 with the man advantage while the Muskies went 2 for 5.
The Muskies were once down 3-0 in the series and look to complete the comeback with a win in Game 7 tomorrow night at the Plex in Port Elgin at 8:30 P.M..
