The Owen Sound Downtown Improvement Area Board has brought down what they think is a sensible budget given the current economic times.
Chair Sue Carlton says there was no increase this year with a 231 thousand dollar budget.
She says however they have done some shuffling within the budget and re-allocated some of the funding.
Carlton says a new board means new ideas and they hope to conduct some information sessions in conjunction with the Business Enterprise Centre.
She says they’ll also be building upon some of last year’s successes which include partnering with the Salmon Spectacular and Summerfolk.
While at the same time — Carlton says they will get involved in a couple of new events including the Olympic Torch Run in December and Owen Sound Heritage Days.
Carlton says they’ve also set aside money in their budget to hire summer students — however they’re expecting to receive government money to help with that.
As for the mood of Owen Sound businesses heading for another summer tourist season — Carlton says while some may find things slower than usual, she believes the majority will be okay.
