A horse has been put down after it was hit by a car in the Blue Mountains.
The rider was Jessica Ruppel, who is one of Canada’s top equestrians.
She was injured in the collision.
OPP say the horse and Ruppel were on the 9th Side Road when a westbound vehicle hit the horse on Tuesday.
Officers say the driver got out of the car, yelled at the horse owner and then fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a man in his 40’s.
He was driving a white landscaping vehicle.
Ruppel says the 3 year old horse was struggling to get up, and they discovered on scene that she had a broken pelvis.
They then made the decision to humanely put her down, and end her suffering.
The 25 year old Ruppel spent months recovering from a broken back suffered in a riding accident last year.
She suffered only bruises and scrapes in the crash.
