This is another sure sign of Spring — the Canadian Cancer Society is holding its annual Daffodil fundraiser.
April is Daffodil Month — where the Canadian Cancer Society sells daffodils to raise money and awareness.
The Bluewater Unit in Bruce and Grey Counties will start selling daffodils Thursday.
Fundraising Co-ordinator Jen Wright says they have volunteers spread out across more than 15 communities in Grey Bruce ready to sell the daffodils.
The list includes Owen Sound, Wiarton, Tobermory, Southampton, Port Elgin, Kincardine, Lucknow, Walkerton, Hanover, Paisley, Markdale, Flesherton, Meaford and Thornbury as well as other smaller communities.
She says you will be able to spot their people at grocery stores, hospitals and farmers markets until the end of the weekend.
Wright says the money will help cover a number of their initiatives — from cancer research to their transportation service.
That is when volunteers drive cancer patients anywhere in Ontario free of charge to get treatment.
The daffodil fundraiser first started in the 1950’s.
Last year the Bluewater Unit raised about 56 thousand dollars selling daffodils in Bruce and Grey Counties.
The Ontario fundraising total last April topped three million dollars.
You can buy one bunch of daffodils for 7 dollars or two bunches for 12 dollars.
Volunteers will also be selling silk daffodil pins for 4 dollars.
Wright says they will also have door to door canvassers raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
