A new police officer will be patrolling the streets of Hanover.
Michelle Duffy will be starting with the Hanover Police Services soon after her graduation from police college next weekend.
Hanover Council on Monday night passed a motion allowing the Town to enter into an agreement with the Ministry of Community and Correctional Services.
The move would see the Town use funds from the Police Officers Recruitment Fund to pay for Duffy’s salary over the next five years while she is with the HPS.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says Duffy is from the Hanover area and she will be a welcome addition to the HPS.
Maskell says they heard about the funding several months ago and applied soon afterwards.
She says the Province recognizes the need to have more police officers in communities in order to keep them safe.
Maskell says it is good to have another police officer in Hanover.
She says having a female police officer on the force is a really good advantage for the Town.
