Hockey linesman Kendrick Nicholson from Sauble Beach departs for a major international tournament in Italy today.
He’ll be the lone Canadian on-ice official at the World Under 18 ” B ” Hockey Championship.
This tournament is significant for the teams involved as the winner will gain a berth at the World Junior Hockey Championship next year.
It also represents a significant opportunity for Nicholson who was selected for the experience from a pool of officials by Hockey Canada.
Nicholson knows that like the teams, this tournament could be his first step towards doing bigger games internationally and professionally.
Already with experience at the OHL and the AHL level, Nicholson is looking forward to the event and the challenge of communicating through hockey when not all the officials speak the same language.
