Students from Stayner Collegiate Institute will join 18 hundred other students from 54 other high schools across Canada and the U.S for a robotics competition.
The competition goes today and tomorrow in Mississauga at the Hershey Centre.
Karen Rosenthal is one of the organizers and says all of the students have mentors from industry to help with construction and design of their robots.
She says the students have spent the last six weeks construction the robots from scratch which weigh in at about 120 pounds and stand 6 feet high.
Rosenthal says the machines will compete in two and a half minute bouts of high intensity robot sports for a chance to move to the world championships taking place next month in Georgia.
She says while the competition is intense between the robots, there is a lot of co-operation on the team to help other teams resolve any technical difficulties that may crop up.
Rosenthal says constructing a robot from scratch helps the students develop skills in problem solving, leadership as well as design manufacturing, programming and testing.
