So it’s over.
For the 20th season, the Ontario Hockey League has come to the end of the line here in Owen Sound.
About this time in 1989, Lou Kazowski made overtures about moving the Kingston Raiders to Owen Sound.
And while that attempt was aborted, moreso by the OHL than by Kazowski, in short order the Holody Family of Guelph moved their Platers from the Royal City to the Scenic City and the OHL commenced a 20 year run here.
This 20th season had its moments.
On the surface, the Attack made a minor step from 9th to 8th in the Western Conference, the difference between being knocked in 4 straight or missing the playoffs altogether.
But truthfully, I found the progress to be huge.
The Owen Sound outfit has a number of young pillars around which to make the next step, a more significant step beginning in September.
Hishon, Stajcer, Shipley, Wilson, Cutting and more made this season both interesting and fun.
I’m thinking the time between now and next season will be eagerly anticipated on many fronts.
However, that’s not to say there aren’t alterations to be made, some of which may have started yesterday.
We’ll talk about that later.
Have a good weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
