The problems associated with drug use in the region will be discussed at a special meeting in Walkerton.
Bruce County Social Services Director Terry Sanderson says there’s considerable concern over the rapidly rising use of crystal meth in particular.
Sanderson says a representative from the Ministry of Health will be at the table along with several Grey and Bruce county councillors, Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn and family members impacted by the problem.
He says they’re hoping to shed some light on the social implications of drug use including the fact that many crystal meth users aren’t able to hold down a job and are forced to go on disability.
Sanderson says they’re hoping to convince the province to come up with funding for education, treatment and increased policing surrounding crystal meth use.
The meeting will be held this afternoon at Bruce County Council chambers in Walkerton but is not open to the public.
