We’re just hours away from the next Ontario provincial budget.
Finance Minister Dwight Duncan is scheduled to present the Liberal budget around 4 PM this afternoon.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell says she hopes to see further government investment in health care and education and plans to re-inforce the economy.
She says education needs to be re-vitalized in the province, both structurally and to provide the curriculum the kids need in a changing work force.
Meanwhile an economist with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives Hugh Mackenzie says the Ontario budget must deliver what the federal budget did not.
Mackenzie the provincial budget must fill the federal void and he says, judging by the news leaks in the last few weeks, he’s optimistic the Liberals will step up to the plate.
He says if they do, he says he can see the downward economic slide ending in the next couple of months with a levelling out period throughout the middle of the year.
Mackenize says he expects to see a slow upturn by the third quarter into the first quarter of next year.
