The school boards in Bruce Grey are not going to mess with the traditional school year.
School staff will have to head back to class the week prior to the Labour Day weekend.
They will have two professional development days and than take a school board holiday on Friday before the long weekend.
This will alleviate the scheduling problems created by a later than usual Labour Day Weekend.
Catholic Superintendent of Education Catherine Montreuil believes this is in the best interest of everyone.
She says this should put to rest concerns raised by parents and the business community who objected to students heading back to class prior to the Labour Day.
They were concerned an earlier start date would interfere with family holidays and hurt the cottage and tourism industry.
By taking two PD days prior to the Labour Day Weekend, the Catholic and public school boards will now be able to fit in their required 196 school days from September to the end of June.
