Residents in Saugeen Shores will find that it will cost more for some recreational activities this year.
Council accepted a recommendation from Director of Community Services Mike Myatt last night that will see fees at municipally-owned buildings and services go up in 2009.
Myatt says rates will be up in the 3 to 4 per cent range.
Myatt says the Town wants to remain competitive with other municipalities.
He says their fees are pretty fair.
Myatt says ice rental rates are going up 4 to 5 dollars an hours while tourist camp and ball diamond rates will also see a 3 per cent increase.
Though he says public skating and public swimming rate will remain the same as last year’s.
He says they feel they have already maxed out the fees for those services.
Despite increases over the past few years, Myatt says the number of people who use the facilities have remained close to the same level.
He says the occupancy rate at the Plex is close to 100 per cent while the rate at the Southampton Coliseum is around 85 per cent.
He says they have seen a constant level of users at their ice facilities, ball diamonds, soccer fields, and swimming pools.
