MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Casey Cizikas scored a pair goals for the second game in a row and defenceman Cameron Gaunce had a goal and three assists as the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors routed the Barrie Colts 7-3 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference quarter-final playoff series.
Cizikas started a four-goal, first-period outburst by the Majors when he scored his first of the night just seven minutes into the game. He scored Mississauga’s final goal of the night, a short-handed effort late in the second.
`We did what we had to do,’ said Cizikas, who also earned an assist on Jessie Messier’s power play goal in the first minute of the second period. `We’ve got to keep taking it to them. We’ve got to keep going to the net, getting shots and keep playing like we did today.’
Gaunce scored in the first period and picked up an assist on Cizikas’ first of the night. He also assisted on first-period goals by Mike Pelech and Jared Gomes. Corey Bureau had the other goal for the Majors, who have outscored the Colts 18-10 in the three post-season games.
`We’re on a roll right now,’ said Gaunce, who had a plus-four rating for the game. `They’re a never-quit team but we know we can beat them.’
Barrie’s Darren Archibald scored twice in the third period after the Majors had built up a 7-1 lead. Ryan Gottschalk had the other goal for the Colts.
