The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks now have a 2-0 lead in the best of seven semi-final WOAA series with the Shelburne Muskies.
Yesterday, the Wintehawks handled the Muskies 6-1 with Hawks forward Brent MacDermid picking up the hat trick to lead the way.
Even goalie Nick Goetz got in the act as he was awarded a couple of assists.
MacDermid says it was a chippy game with 35 penalties being called but it was a big win for the home squad, having picked up their first win on the road on Saturday.
He says everyone on the team is clicking and he felt he was a bit lucky picking up the hat trick yesterday.
However, he says you just have to keep shooting at the net and good things happen.
MacDermid says he doesn’t forsee any change in the game plan for this coming Friday and the third game of the series.
Meanwhile, Muskies coach Joe Bates was subdued after the game but said his team hasn’t shown up for a game yet in this series.
Bates says he knows the Winterhawks are not going to let down and it shows night in and night out.
He says his team’s power play has got to pick up.
In a word he calls it “horrendous,” not only yesterday but Saturday as well.
Bates says the team has had its chances but hasn’t taken advantage of them and the team this week will re-group and get ready for Friday’s game.
That game will be played at the Plex with gametime 8:30.
The fourth game will go this Saturday in Shelburne.
