Wiarton could soon be famous for more than just Wiarton Willie.
Efforts are under way to have world renowned singer Petula Clark attend the repeat premier of a film she stared in 63 years ago which made its North American debut in Tobermory.
Paul Kastner is one of the members of the Premier Committee and says Ms Clark was just 13 she starred in the film, “I Know Where I’m Going”.
He says Canadian Odeon chose Tobermory for the film’s premier because the story is set in the community of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in Scotland.
Kastner says he already has had two personal phone calls with Petula Clark and she is very interested in attend the event to be held in Wiarton, if her performance schedule allows it.
He says Ms. Clark would appear to talk about her role in the film, and would not be doing any singing, but merely mingling and speaking with fans.
Kastner says he is to speak with her in mid April to find out if there is a window of opportunity for her to appear in Wiarton.
He says late September or Early October look like the best possible dates for her visit.
Kastner says the repeat premier of the film would be a fundraising event to hopefully generate funds for the performing arts program at Peninsula Shores School.
