The Collingwood Curling Club is hoping a celebrity will attract new members.
World Champion Curler, Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, will be holding a curling clinic and taking part in a celebrity game on March 28th.
He’ll be bringing with him his second Brent Lang, who is a former Collingwood resident, and his son and daughter who are also curlers.
Collingwood Club President Don Wilson says this free event, the first of its kind for them, is their way of giving back to the community.
He says Howard will be demonstrating a few of his best moves at 2:30pm followed by the game.
The end of season bonspiel for members will still be held in the morning.
Wilson says it’s hard to gauge how many people might come out to watch the afternoon event, but they’ll be putting in extra seating for 3 to 4 hundred people and they can accomodate 150 more in the lobby upstairs at the club.
Wilson hopes this event will entice more people to give the sport a try.
He tells us curling has become more popular over the years.
Wilson says 8 years ago the Collingwood Club had about 80 members and now has 500.
