Georgian Bluffs council has completed budget deliberations and residents are looking at a tax increase.
Township of Georgian Bluffs residents are looking at a 2.5 percent tax increase for 2009.
Council has completed budget deliberations and a public meeting has been set for April 1st at 7 PM in council chambers for residents to comment on the budget.
The budget totals more than 17 million dollars.
Mayor Alan Barfoot says staff had concerns about depleting the reserves without replenishing them.
They are proposing a 2.5 percent increase so the left over funds can be put back into reserves.
Barfoot says the increase is looking to be less this year than it has ever been.
Last year’s budget saw a 2.6 percent tax hike.
Barfoot says capital spending has not been finalized yet and will be discussed at a later date.
He says they have spent some of their reserves over the last couple of years on new equipment and an update to the fire hall.
Barfoot says council wanted to make sure there was a direct amount being put into reserves versus into the operating capital.
The budget is expected to receive final approval on April 15th.
