There is a meeting today at the town hall in Collingwood to form a group to look after the new off leash dog park in the town.
The meeting is at 6:30 PM and the new dog park will be opening its gates in May.
Councillor Mike Edwards says everyone is welcome at the meeting, especially those people who are interested in forming a management group for the new park.
He says it’s an information session about the progress of the park, and to get input from the public for when they open the park.
Edwards says the opening date of May is weather permitting, and he says he’s been working towards this day for 6 years now, and he’s anxious to move ahead, and see the project come to fruition.
Edwards says they have based the new dog park on an existing park in Belleville, and that park uses funds raised from charging about 10 dollars admission per year to make improvements to the park over time.
He says that would be a great model to use here in Collingwood as well, and hopes the new park will be self run, and self policed as well.
The new park is on the poplar side road near where the new water pump station is, and borders on pretty river and the trails system.
Edwards says they have some great plans, and it will be great to see anyone interested to come out and learn more.
