Make it back-to-back Western Junior C titles for the Walkerton Hawks.
The Hawks not only beat the Hanover Barons 4-3 last night, but also closed out a tradition in Hanover.
Around a thousand spectators at the Hanover Coliseum witnessed the Hawks wrap up the finals with a win in the final game at the arena.
The Hawks win the championship finals in 6 games and will take on the Georgian Mid-Ontario champs the Alliston Hornets in the OHA Schmaltz Cup quarterfinal playoffs — a rematch of last years quarterfinals.
The loss by the Barons was their first home loss in the post-season.
Walkerton opened the scoring 31 seconds in the first on a goal by Andy Mitchell.
Kevin Tremble would tie it for Hanover early in the 2nd period, only to see Mike Roelefson restore the Walkerton lead 10 seconds later.
Rob Hellyer & Chris Hopkins scored for Hanover to give the Barons a 3-2 lead after 2 periods.
Walkerton would tie it up 82 seconds in the third on a goal from Trevor Harper.
Then Bill Terpstras goal midway through the period proved to be the winner and the last goal scored in a Junior C game at the Coliseum.
Clayton Fritsch answered the call once again making 24 saves for the Hawks.
Michael Nigalis matched Fritsch shot for shot stopping 27 for the Barons.
Game 1 between the Hawks and the Hornets goes this Saturday night at the Walkerton Community Centre.
Game 2 is on Sunday night in Alliston.
Of note: Hornets Head Coach Darrin Shannon was at the game a day after his team captured the Georgian Mid-Ontario championship in 6 games over the Penetang Kings.
The Hawks won the coin toss and will get home ice advantage in the quarterfinal series.
