The County of Huron will keep their residents prepared in case of an emergency.
Manager of Emergency Medical Services David Lew says the County has purchased the PRISM-911 (Protective Response Interactive Services Management) system to keep people aware of any emergencies in Huron.
He says the automated system will call residents in the event of a boil-water advisory, a chemical spill, a missing child or anything that the public would need to be notified of.
Lew says the system will be linked with the 911 database to look up civic addresses and phone numbers.
But, he says even people without a landline can receive a call from the system, as long as you give the County the number of the phone you use the most.
Lew says the system can narrow down the affected residents in the case of an emergency and notify them within a couple of hours.
Lew says they’re hoping the system will be up and running by November of this year.
Inspector Dan Grant with the Huron OPP says the police will also be involved with the PRISM-911 notifications.
He says they would use the system for anything that the OPP would be involved in and could affect a large number of residents, like a school lockdown or hostage situation.
