Collingwood’s Harbour will soon have a very different look.
The Leisure Services Department presented a plan for the Waterfront Park to council Monday night.
Director of Leisure Services, Peter Dunbar, says the plan includes public walkways and docks that will link Harbourview Park to Hurontario Street.
There would be more trails and a bike path that would run parallel to First Street, but not along the water for safety reasons.
Visitors who come in by boat will be able to dock and go to a restaurant that will be at the water’s edge.
Dunbar says if this plan is approved by council, you could be able to walk the entire waterfront at the tail end of this summer.
He says a 2 to 3 hundred seat amphitheatre will be ready by the fall.
In total, Dunbar says the plan will cost about 2.8 million dollars.
It’s pegged at 2.4 million with about 437 thousand in additional costs that are subject to council’s approval.
But Dunbar says they will get development charges back for every unit built in the Shipyards Development which is currently projected at 750 units over the next seven years.
The plan also includes a traffic light at Huron Street and Heritage Drive and safety stations and ladders along the launch basin as well as heritage lamp posts along the public walkways.
Dunbar says they need to report back to council with some clarifications on the plan, so he doesn’t know when it will be before council for approval.
