The recession isn’t slowing a multi billion-dollar bid by Ontario-based Bruce Power to bring nuclear reactors to Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Bruce Power C-E-O executive Duncan Hawthorne says long-term atomic power projects might sidestep the current recession because they wouldn’t be built for several years.
Nuclear power has yet to win policy approval from the Alberta government.
Premier Ed Stelmach has assured Albertans they’ll be consulted before any decision is made.
However, Bruce Power has started up a public relations campaign with billboards in four Alberta cities.
Bruce Power is also dangling the nuclear carrot in Saskatchewan.
The province already has a feasibility study and public consultations are next.
Hawthorne says there’s enough demand to justify two reactors in each province.
