Arran-Elderslie Council has decided to go ahead with an audit of the municipal Building Department and property files.
One resident in particular has been demanding something be done to ensure proper procedures are being followed in the deparment.
Mayor Ron Oswald says the decision to have the independent review was unanimous and believes it will “clear the air” surrounding the situation.
He says they’ve decided to hire an outside firm that is experienced with building department work that will report back to council.
Oswald says the report could not have been done in-house because staff are too closely connected with the matter.
The mayor says a review of the Chief Building Official has not taken place in his time as mayor but he believes it’s the best way of finding the true results and keeping taxpayers properly informed.
Oswald says the cost of the audit is not yet known and they are still contacting firms to perform it.
He says they’ll know the cost and select the firm at the March 23rd council meeting.
