The 40 year old Owen Sound man charged in a 25 year old murder investigation in Petrolia, is out on bail.
But he is back in a Sarnia court Tuesday, March 24th.
He was recently released on bail in connection with the October 1983 murder of 70 year old Velma Thompson.
Thompson was found sexually assaulted and stabbed to death at her Petrolia home and for years the case was open as OPP followed up leads.
Last June 26th, the suspect was arrested in Owen Sound where he has lived for several years.
His name is not being released because at the time of the crime he was only 15.
Inspector Ian Maule tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, a team of investigators began reviewing the case in February of last year.
Under Project consolidation, Inspector Maule says “cold cases” are reviewed for any new evidence.
The suspect was a person of interest since 2001 but had not been questioned by police prior to his arrest in the Scenic city.
The Owen Sound man faces charges of 1st degree murder and aggravated sexual assault.
Inspector Maule says the Crown is still waiting for more Forensic testing to be completed on DNA evidence before the case moves into the trial phase later this year.
