Ten ” AAA ” Midget Hockey clubs will be in Owen Sound this weekend competing at the S.C.T.A. League Championship tournament.
Among the 10 clubs will be the host entry, the Grey Bruce Douglas Cleaners Highlanders.
This represents the first time the Highlanders organization has ever hosted the SCTA Championship tournament weekend.
The tournament games are being staged at both the J.D. McArthur Arena and at the Owen Sound Coliseum.
Games begin Friday morning at 10 am and continue through Friday & Saturday leading to Sunday where two semifinal games will be played at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
The ten teams will be split into two pools of 5 teams based on their regular season standings.
In one pool, the first & second place finishers will be pooled with the teams who finished 8th, 9th & 10th during the regular season.
In the other pool, the remaining five clubs, those who finished third through 7th in the regular season will be combined.
Every team will play 4 pool games, two each at the Bayshore & at the Coliseum.
On Sunday, the top finisher in each pool will play the second place finisher in the opposite pool.
The winners of those semifinal games will earn the right to represent the S.C.T.A. at the O.M.H.A. Championship tournament at Peterborough.
Douglas Cleaners Highlanders coach Jay Forslund believes the Oakville entry is among the favorites to be among the final 4.
Forslund also relates the tournament will be heavily scouted by several OHL & Junior teams and potentially some US College & Universities as well.
