” Aloha ” to the OSCVI Lady Falcons Volleyball team.
Actually they left yesterday and my guess should be touching down in Hawaii about now.
Like most Bluewater schools, the Lady Falcons have both a Senior Girls & a Junior Girls Volleyball team, but for this year, they also amalgamated a dozen of those girls and created ” Team Hawaii “.
Team Hawaii from the OSCVI will spend their March Break on the American island, competing in both gym and Beach Volleyball matches in an international tournament.
Getting to Hawaii, even in the days of reduced travel costs, was an expensive proposition.
The Lady Falcons needed to raise almost $ 3,500 per player and to defray the cost, many people were busy, very busy.
They hosted tournaments, they held raffles, their coach Teresa Boley says she and the parents may never bake again and along the way they also encountered the Owen Sound Police who informed them their ” marketing technique ” to lure motorists to a Car Wash @ Boston Pizza, while unique, was also a distraction to drivers on the East Side.
Overall, the Lady Falcons met their financial target and as a result, while we grind out late winter, they’re basking in the Hawaiian sun.
Truly a nice reward for what will be, and probably has been, very memorable experience from their high school days.
