The Southwestern Ontario Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is taking inventory.
Vice-President of Clinical Services for the South Bruce Grey Health Services, Diane Waram says LHIN has been in their area trying to establish an inventory of what emergency services are available throughout Southwestern Ontario.
She says they also want to find out what the needs are to ensure that emergency services are available in the long term.
Waram says during their visit to South Bruce Grey, they were looking at how many physicians and nurses are working in the emergency departments and the ages of physicians as they approach retirement age.
She says it will give the LHIN people an idea of what the future may hold and what needs to be addressed.
Waram says the group did not visit all hospitals nor all emergency departments.
She says the study group did visit the Durham hospital and the others within the South Bruce Grey Health Services connected by teleconferencing.
LHIN hopes to have a final report on their Southwestern Ontario study by late April or early May.
