The Bruce, Grey and Huron Disability Transportation Corporation paid a visit to South Bruce Council on Tuesday.
It was in response to the municipality’s earlier decision to stop funding the service and pull our of the organization.
Council decided not to give thirty thousand dollars to the organization after provincial funding for the service ended.
Funding used to come through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund.
Mayor Bill Goetz says they are not abandoning people in need and believes they have the responsibility to use tax dollars wisely. He says funding the service amounts to an extra one percent on the budget.
Council is open to the possibility that if talks can be held with MPP Carol Mitchell and Ministry or Transportation officials, funding could be re-instated.
Joe Pickering, the Consultant Coordinator for the service hopes that can happen and adds approaching the government and the MPP is the next step in the process.
He would like to see the municipality change it’s mind about financial support.
Pickering says they will continue to provide transportation for disabled people in South Bruce until the end of March and if council doesn’t change it’s mind before then, no more service will be provided in South Bruce.
Five municipalities make up the Bruce, Grey, and Huron Disability Transportation Corporation. South Bruce is the only one to pull out because of declining provincial funding and increased costs.
