As if we needed proof that there’s always something happening in our region — several local events have received top honours.
Festival and Events Ontario have honoured the top 100 Ontario events for 2009.
On that list are Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest, Sights n’ Sound in Hanover, Owen Sound’s Summerfolk and the Holstein Rodeo.
The Pumpkinfest also garnered an award for Best Community Involvement recognizing how the event partnered with other community-oriented organizations.
This past year’s event saw more than two hundred volunteers put in more than eighteen hundred volunteer hours.
Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce spokesperson Sally Hunt says the award is more about the people, than the event itself.
And the Holstein Rodeo also received a special award for their use of computer technology to promote and manager their event.
Festivals and Events Ontario says there is significant market value in being named one of the Top 100 events including being featured in the annual guide read by more than 750 thousand people.
