Everything you wanted to know about financial help to protect municipal drinking water sources will be revealed at three special meetings in Grey Bruce.
The meetings are being put on by the Saugeen, Grey Sauble, Northern Bruce Peninsula Source Protection Region and will let landowners know of just what financial help is available to protect water resources.
David Ellingwood is with the the Source Protection Region and says today’s meeting goes this afternoon and evening at the Saugeen Conservation Authority Resource Centre in Hanover.
Tomorrow’s session will take place at the The Meeting Place at Propeller Club, Wiarton and Thursday’s meeting will take place at the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority office lower level in Owen Sound.
All meetings go from 2 until 4 PM and 7 until 9 PM on all three days.
Ellingwood says Clean Water Act funding is provided by the Ministry of the Environment to partnering Conservation Authorities under the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program.
He says a total of 21 million dollars will be made available over three years through to spring of 2011.
Of the 7 dollars million available in 2008-2009 — 5 million will support early actions by property owners to protect municipal drinking water sources, namely municipal wellheads and municipal surface water intakes.
Special projects funding of 1.5 million dollars will support innovative approaches to the protection of drinking water sources.
The other half million dollars will provide education about source protection and early actions.
Ellingwood says anyone who cant make to the meetings, but want to comment on the Clean water act or Stewardship Program can do so on line at www.waterprotection.ca
