One of Owen Sound’s largest projects is moving forward.
Owen Sound’s waste water committee is working on an environmental assessment required for upgrading the waste water treatment plant in Owen Sound.
City councillor and Chair of the Operations Advisory Committee, Bill Twaddle says they held a special meeting last night to update committee members on completed work and what the next steps will be.
Twaddle says right now the plant is considered as primary and they will be upgrading it to a secondary treatment plant.
Twaddle says once the assessment is complete the committee will come up with the best option for upgrading.
He says this is one of the biggest and most exciting projects the city has ever undertaken.
Twaddle says the project was started in 2007 and it is their goal to complete it in 8 years.
He says the estimated cost is between 40 and 60 million dollars.
Twaddle says the currently the plant is still up to standard – but there is certainly room to improve it significantly.
He says the city realizes they are not being as environmentally responsible as possible.
Twaddle says there will be a public meeting in about 2 to 3 months for questions and comments.
No official date for the meeting has been set.
