While many companies are cutting staff, Bruce Power is still looking for skilled workers.
Manager of Government Relations Ross Lamont came to Bruce County Council in Walkerton yesterday to deliver their monthly update.
Lamont says they have a number of staff who are reaching retirement age and want to keep staff levels up in order for them to operate 8 units.
He says they are anticipating hiring around 250 people in a variety of positions for this year.
Lamont says many people in this generation look at jobs in the short-term moving from job to job in the process.
He says when people get a job in the nuclear industry most of them make a career out of it and stay in the business for a long time.
He says when you add the fact that people will be moving to Bruce County to work at the Bruce site, no one will leave once they get to know the place.
Lamont doesnt believe Bruce Power is being asked to help Ontario get out of the current recession.
But he says they do have an opportunity to contribute to a changing economy..
He says it will be a good thing if Bruce Power can contribute to bringing Ontario out of a recession.
