Game one of the Western Junior C finals goes to Walkerton.
Andy Mitchells second goal of the game gave the Hawks a 6-5 victory over the Hanover Barons in overtime.
Around 11 hundred spectators at the Walkerton Community Centre last night saw the Barons hold leads on 4 separate occasions only to have the Hawks tie it up.
The Hawks never led throughout the game.
It looked as if Hanover would win the game when Jim Hutchinson knuckled one past a startled Brock Hansell with 1:40 left in the third giving the Barons a 5-4 lead.
But just 6 seconds later Drew Davidson skated past the Barons defence and put one past Michael Nigalis to tie the game at 5 and send it to Overtime..
Hanover opened up a 2-0 lead on goals by Cory McClinchey and Steve Hillier.
Walkerton tied it at 2 with a late first period goal by Greg Wardell on a 5-on-3 power play and one early in the second from Tanner Shlakat.
Hillier had two goals and added an assist for Hanover, Matt Fischer rounded out the scoring for the Barons.
Kevin Cruczman also scored for the Hawks.
Hawks Head Coach Joe Bak replaced Hansell with Clayton Fritsch in goal at the start of Overtime.
The Barons outshot the Hawks 43 to 39.
Game 2 of this best-of-seven final is Sunday afternoon at 4 PM at the Hanover Coliseum.
